Weekly Weather Outlook
It's shaping up to be a very active week across southern Australia, with widespread moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, flooding, and fog expected across large parts of the South East and South West.A low pressure system that delivered moderate rainfall to south-west Western Australia over the weekend will move east across the Great Australian Bight, dragging a broad trough stretching from southern Queensland to northern Tasmania. This system will tap into tropical moisture, feeding widespread rain into the south-east.The heaviest rainfall is expected across the Victorian Alps from Monday through Wednesday, with significant accumulations possible. Despite the heavy precipitation, temperatures will remain too warm for snowfall during this period.Meanwhile, a second low pressure system and cold front will develop over south-west Western Australia on Tuesday, bringing another round of moderate rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms. As this system tracks east, it is expected to reach the south-east on Thursday, reinforcing rainfall totals while also ushering in much colder air. This colder change should allow snow to return to the Australian Alps later in the week.Across northern Australia, conditions remain relatively dry and settled for most of the week, although moderate rainfall is possible across southern parts of the Northern Territory next Saturday. With multiple days of rain forecast for many southern regions, the risk of flooding will increase as catchments become saturated. If you're in an area expecting prolonged rainfall, stay up to date with the latest warnings, secure any loose outdoor items ahead of strong winds, and take extra care on the roads in areas affected by heavy rain, fog, or flooding.Have a great week, stay warm, stay dry, and most importantly, stay safe!
